What Is Lyonesse?
Lyonesse is an Apple-platform app that records or imports audio, transcribes it, summarises it and lets you ask questions about your notes, PDFs, Office files and photos, all described as running on the device. The App Store lists it as "Lyonesse: AI Transcript & Chat" in Productivity, from the seller Josip Markovic (copyright "Markovic Software, obrt za usluge"); the website, privacy policy and terms name no person or company. The listing first appeared on 31 October 2025, and version 2.0.1 on 3 September 2026 renamed the app from Inscribe to Lyonesse.
The App Store title varies by storefront, for example "Lyonesse: KI Transkript & Chat" in Germany and "Lyonesse: AI文字起こし・チャット" in Japan; all refer to the same app.

Features Confirmed by the Sources
Every item below comes from the App Store description, its version history or the maker's website; none has been independently tested.
- Recording on the Apple Watch. The Watch app records on its own, so the iPhone does not need to be nearby while you record. When the watch is back in range, the audio file transfers to the iPhone, which does the transcription and summaries (maker; version 2.0.5; PromptQuorum did not test the Watch app).
- Transcription. Live transcription with speaker labels in 15 languages; version 2.0.4 added live translated captions, custom vocabulary and a clean verbatim view.
- Summaries and tasks. AI summaries, key points and decisions, plus an Action Center that extracts tasks, owners and due dates.
- Ask Lyonesse and document chat. Questions across notes, transcripts, PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and images, with citations and on-device OCR; Projects group recordings and documents.
- Meeting assistant. Calendar linking, live captions, name-mention alerts, AI-drafted minutes and action items sent to Apple Reminders; on the Mac it records the microphone and system audio, so no bot joins the call.
- Apple ecosystem. Widgets, Siri and Shortcuts support (version 2.0.1) and iCloud sync, which the maker says is on by default.
The Maker's Own Measurements
Lyonesse links two measurement posts from its home page; both were run by the maker and neither has been reproduced by PromptQuorum.
In the speech benchmark, published on 15 July 2026, the maker compared eight engines on the English LibriSpeech corpus on one Apple M2 Pro. It reports word error rates on clean and noisier speech of 2.12% and 4.56% for Apple SpeechAnalyzer and 2.51% and 4.28% for Parakeet TDT v3. It also reports that version 1.8.9 dropped Whisper and that the automatic mode prefers Apple SpeechAnalyzer where a language is supported. The post states that it covers English only, read audiobook speech rather than meetings, and one machine.
In the upload measurement, the maker played a 10-minute meeting clip on one Mac and logged network bytes per process. It reports that Lyonesse 2.0.4 sent 0.02 MB while recording, against 115.7 MB for Notion AI Meeting Notes 7.39.0. The post calls itself a vendor self-test of one network on one day, with two of five planned apps, bytes only and no security audit, and notes that Lyonesse also downloaded about 18 MB of speaker-detection models once and synced about 0.4 MB of note text through iCloud.
Data Flow and Privacy
The privacy policy, last updated on 9 October 2026, says audio recordings never leave the device and that transcription, summaries and document analysis run on it, with no data sent to external servers for processing. No account is needed, and the policy states that Lyonesse does not collect recordings, transcripts, documents, names, emails, location or contacts. Its line saying that no third-party analytics are integrated is out of date, according to the maker, who is correcting it.
Some data does move. The maker says the app sends anonymous usage events to Mixpanel and that RevenueCat handles subscriptions, never audio, transcripts or notes. The policy describes anonymized usage statistics (app opens, feature use, device type, system and app version) and crash reports; the App Store privacy labels list device ID, product interaction and crash data as collected and not linked to you. Transcripts and summaries sync between your own devices through iCloud, which the maker says is on by default, and device backups include app data. The maker says it runs no sync servers and cannot see iCloud data. Apple Intelligence, the App Store, iCloud and backups fall under Apple's own policies.
📌Note: These are the developer's declarations, not audit results, and the source code is not published. PromptQuorum has not inspected the app's network traffic. The policy and terms name no legal entity or postal address; the App Store copyright line reads "Markovic Software, obrt za usluge" and the terms apply Croatian law.
From the Maker
Josip Markovic, the developer of Lyonesse, reviewed the draft of this review and sent corrections and the note below. It is presented as the developer's own words, not as PromptQuorum's independent editorial assessment. His corrections on languages, models, the Apple Watch recorder, the sync default, analytics and the hardware requirement are applied in this review:
"I built Lyonesse because I wanted meeting notes without a bot joining the call and without my audio going to someone's server. Everything runs on the device: Apple's speech model or Parakeet for transcription, Apple Intelligence or a small open model for summaries. When I measured it, a 10-minute meeting sent 0.02 MB from Lyonesse against 115.7 MB from Notion's meeting notes. Next up are the things users asked for: subfolders, a default note format per folder and one-off AI instructions on a note."
— Josip Markovic, developer
Who Should Use It
- Students and interviewers who record lectures or conversations and want a transcript, summary and searchable library without an account.
- Mac users in many calls who want notes without a bot joining the meeting.
- Buyers who dislike subscriptions and want a lifetime-purchase option after trying the free recording.
What We Could Not Verify
- Accuracy in practice. PromptQuorum did not record or transcribe anything, so transcript quality, speaker-label accuracy, summary quality and coverage of all 15 languages are not assessed.
- Sync default. The maker confirms that iCloud sync is on by default, as the privacy policy says; the App Store description, which says it is off, is wrong and he plans to fix it in the next release. PromptQuorum did not check the setting.
- "Nothing leaves your device." The site says nothing is uploaded, while the maker says the app sends anonymous usage events to Mixpanel and the policy line about third-party analytics is being corrected. PromptQuorum has not inspected network traffic.
- Hardware requirement. The terms, last updated on 28 October 2025, still say the app requires Apple Intelligence-capable hardware; the maker says that is outdated and that a downloadable local model takes over without it.
- Track record. The App Store showed only a handful of ratings when checked, and the app carried the name Inscribe until 3 September 2026.
- Regulated use. Suitability for medical, legal or other regulated recording was not assessed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I record with only the Apple Watch?
Yes, per the maker: the Watch app records on its own, and the iPhone does not need to be nearby while you record. When the watch is back in range, the audio file transfers to the iPhone, where the transcription and summaries happen. PromptQuorum did not test the Watch app.
What does Lyonesse cost outside the United States?
On the App Store storefronts checked on 26 October 2026, Monthly / Annual / lifetime Unlimited cost 8,99 € / 34,99 € / 69,99 € in Germany, Spain and France, ¥1,300 / ¥5,000 / ¥10,000 in Japan, ₩12,000 / ₩49,000 / ₩99,000 in South Korea and R$ 49,90 / R$ 199,90 / R$ 399,90 in Brazil.
Do I need permission to record a meeting?
The terms make you solely responsible for complying with the recording laws that apply to you, which in some places require consent from everyone on the call; the maker accepts no liability for violations.
How do renewals and refunds work?
Per the terms, subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends in your Apple ID settings, the lifetime purchase has no recurring fees, and purchases are final except where the law requires a refund.
Is there a Windows or Android version?
None is listed: the App Store entry covers Apple platforms only, and the maker's site names no other platform.
Verdict
Lyonesse is a broad, actively updated way to get transcripts, meeting notes and document chat on an iPhone or Mac, and its Apple Watch app can record on its own, with the iPhone doing the transcription later. A free recording lets you try it, and a lifetime-purchase option sits next to the subscriptions. Against that, it is closed-source, comes from one independent developer, needs a 26-series operating system, rests its privacy and speed claims on the maker's own measurements, and still carries outdated wording in its terms, privacy policy and App Store text, which the maker says he is correcting. It suits people with recent Apple hardware who want account-free notes and can test the free recording first; anyone recording sensitive or regulated material should read the privacy policy and the sync setting themselves before relying on it.
