What Is LocalMCP?
LocalMCP is a Mac app from Mobile Box - App Consulting UG (haftungsbeschränkt) that runs a local server speaking the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard AI clients use to connect to tools and data. The developer's product page describes it as a bridge between your Mac and a compatible client of your choice, exposing only the sources you release.
It is not a chat app and it ships no model for chatting. The AI work happens in the client you connect, for example Claude Code or a client with a local model. LocalMCP's own text tools, such as summaries or bullet points, use Apple's on-device language model on supported Macs.
Get It
LocalMCP is sold only through the Mac App Store; there is no separate download, trial or source code.

The website named in the App Store listing (a github.io address) returned a 404 page on 24 October 2026, so the table links the developer's own product page instead. The privacy policy is the developer's company-wide page; this review found no section naming LocalMCP.
What You Need
LocalMCP needs macOS 15.0 or later and a separate MCP-capable AI client. Apple's local language model features need more.

| AI client | A compatible MCP client is required |
| Local text tools | macOS 26 or later, supported hardware, Apple Intelligence on |

How to Get Started
The steps follow the developer's description of its setup assistant; PromptQuorum has not run them.
- 1Check your Mac and client
Why it matters: You need macOS 15.0 or later and an MCP-capable client; Apple's local text tools also need macOS 26. - 2Buy and open the app
Why it matters: Install LocalMCP from the Mac App Store and start the setup assistant. - 3Release your data sources
Why it matters: Select mailboxes from Apple Mail and approve each source in the macOS permission dialog; unavailable sources can be skipped. - 4Connect your client
Why it matters: Copy the MCP token and matching configuration from the connection page into your AI client; built-in checks help confirm local access. - 5Review the write permissions
Why it matters: Reminder changes, calendar changes and your own Shortcuts are separate switches, and each change to reminders needs your confirmation in the app.
What It Exposes to Your Client
Per the App Store description, a connected client can search eight kinds of Mac data, and every write is opt-in.
Source | Access per the listing |
|---|---|
| Search selected mailboxes; messages are never changed or sent | |
| Calendar | Search; changes optional, off by default |
| Contacts | Search |
| Reminders | Search; create, update, complete only if enabled and confirmed |
| Notes | Search |
| Photos | Metadata only |
| Voice recordings | Local Voice Memos folder you select |
| Shortcuts | Your own Shortcuts; optional, off by default |
Voice Memos needs an already accessible local folder, and iCloud files must be available locally. Availability depends on your permissions.
Features Confirmed by the Sources
Every item below comes from the App Store description or the developer's page.
- Selective access. macOS permission dialogs and settings in LocalMCP decide which sources a client can reach.
- Bounded Mail search. Selected mailboxes are read and searched with bounded requests, read-only.
- Confirmed writes. When the main window is closed, a dedicated confirmation window opens; declined or timed-out requests return a reason to the client.
- Local text tools. Summarise, shorten, bullet points or tasks, in the app or through the client, using Apple's local model.
- Status view. The developer's page shows server status, available tools and your permissions in one window.
Privacy and Data Flow
The listing says LocalMCP needs no extra login, uses sources already set up on your Mac and does not send content to a developer backend; its App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected".
The data still leaves LocalMCP: it passes content to the MCP client you connect, which, in the developer's words, may process it locally or send it to its own services. Your privacy therefore depends on the client. The listing adds that on macOS 27 an optional Apple cloud image dialog exists whose processing is not exclusively local.
📌Note: PromptQuorum has not audited the code or the network traffic. Check the privacy terms of the client you connect.
Who Should Use It
- Mac users with an MCP client who want an AI agent to search their own Mail, Calendar and Notes.
- People running a local model client who want Mac data available without a cloud connector.
- Cautious users who want per-source approval and a confirmation step before any change.
What We Could Not Verify
- Real behaviour. PromptQuorum did not run LocalMCP, so search quality, speed and stability are unconfirmed.
- Client compatibility. The developer says support and setup differ per client; no client was tested here.
- Longevity and code. The app is closed source, was first released on 18 October 2026 and has no ratings yet.
- Documentation. The setup page linked from the developer's site points to the github.io address that returned a 404 on 24 October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does LocalMCP keep my data on my Mac?
LocalMCP itself sends nothing to a developer backend, per the listing. But it hands search results to the MCP client you connect, and that client may use a cloud service. Choose the client accordingly.
Can the AI client change my data?
Only if you allow it. Mail is read-only. Reminder changes need a separate switch plus confirmation in the app, and calendar changes and Shortcuts are off by default.
Which AI clients work with it?
The developer names MCP-capable apps such as Claude Code and local clients with local models, and says support differs per client. PromptQuorum tested none of them.
Is LocalMCP open source?
No source repository was found, so it is treated as proprietary. The only places to get it are the Mac App Store listing and the developer's page.
Verdict
LocalMCP is a $3.99 Mac App Store app, version 1.5.1 updated on 22 October 2026, that exposes Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Notes and more to an MCP client you choose, with opt-in writes and no developer backend according to its listing. Against that, it is closed source, days old and unrated, it needs a separate MCP client whose privacy you must judge yourself, and nothing here was tested by PromptQuorum.
